A dirty martini adds olive juice, and a vodka martini replaces gin with vodka.
A standard martini is a 5 to 1 ratio, made by combining approximately two and a half ounces of gin and one half ounce of dry vermouth with ice.
Also, you use a shaker with a vodka martini and stir a tradition gin martini.

Here you go ... Enjoy!
Dirty Martini:
Scale ingredients to servings:
2 oz gin
1 tbsp dry vermouth
2 tbsp olive juice
2 olives
1. Place an ice cube and a small amount of water in a cocktail glass. Place in freezer for 2 - 3 minutes.
2. Fill a mixer with all ingredients including garnish. Cover and shake hard 3 - 4 times.
3. Remove cocktail glass from freezer, and empty. Strain contents of the mixer into the cocktail glass, include one of the olives, and serve with a mysterious smile.
Vodka Martini:
Scale ingredients to servings:
1 1/2 oz vodka
3/4 oz dry vermouth
Shake vodka and vermouth together with several ice cubes in a shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with an olive and serve.

It's called "dirty" because you use some olive juice in the mixture.
2 oz vodka chilled vodka
1/4 ounce of vermouth (most people use very little)
2 teaspoons of green olive juice (its the salt you want)
you can add a drop of bitters for fun but just a drop
Stir - do not shake
Pour into chilled glass as some green olives - I like the ones stuffed with almonds or jalapenos.
Serve

My friend (who makes me martini's every Friday) says it depends on the martin glass, but she generally pours 6 oz vodka (grey goose) with a splash of olive juice. Nowadays, martinis do not generally come with vermouth...unless the person is 60 years or older. And... the only way you would put an oz of olive juice is if the martin is extra or filthy (even nasty) dirty. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Typically a dirty martini is a martini where one adds a bit of the brine from the olive jar (it's not olive juice, it's a briney liquid that the olives are packed in). How much is up to the individual, but it's strong tasting stuff.
