In earlier timesd it used to French, and then I heard they sterted shifting to English. Then somewhere i read that they have started teachin spanish compulsarily in schools. And also which language is more similar to portugese-French or Italian?

I would say that BraziianPortuguese is nearer to Italian.
The odd thing is that the Brazilians often unserstand Spanish, but the rest of Latin America do not understand the Portuguese.

I find that the educated classes speak, English and Spanish, and some of the older generation speak good French
