For me i really am sick, and call in normally if it is pretty bad. I don't want to be spreading around to my co-workers, making other people sick and ending up costing more money for company. As sexist this may sound but i noticed frequently that women call in much more than the men too.

I think it kind of works the same way as when people post questions on the SINGLES AND DATING section but their question has nothing to do with singles or dating.

Thanks for the two points.

I have to be pretty sick to call into work, practically on my death bed. I don't think about co-workers catching what I have. I've seen too many people who call in for the tiniest thing (menstrual cramps or "too tired", for instance) and I don't want anyone to think I'm like that.

I'd rather go into to the office, spread germs all around, and be generally miserable until I get sent home. Then I can go home, crawl under the covers, and not feel guilty about staying home sick.

Weird, I know.

Well, women have a lot more problems then men do. =) But yes, whenever I call in sick, I really am sick. Last time I was out, I had a really bad migrane (I was just diagnosed with chronic migrane & tension migranes which I have given my employer a copy of my medical records showing this). But i'm very rarely out because of them. I suffer through them because I feel weird if I stay at home on a weekday, plus I tend to be really bored when I am at home lol.

Yes, I really am. But I have to be feeling pretty awful to call out as I have a strong work ethic and don't want to make my fellow co workers pick up the slack that I burden them with if I call out. I am amazed how many of my younger coworkers call out simply because they have a hangover or have a broken heart. Both males and females are slackers where I work (in a major chain Bookstore).

well, some women go through extreme PMS symptoms that prevent them from being productive in the workplace... that may account for some of it..of course, it isn't contagious.lol. Also the woman is usually to person to have to call in should their child be sick.

when i used to work for people i've called in sick for not being sick but instead sick of working and it's supposed to be scuba diving time to boast me back again. yes, have to admit i've done it so many times and to us back home we were entitled for 14 days sick leave per annual so why bother and times i was even too lazy to go to the clinic for medical slip that so much so the next day i just pop myself into our panel doctor and get one from him.....he understood us too well and sad for us that are still stuck working there but now i don't do that anymore cause i'm helping my husband to run his business.

I usually don't call in sick unless I really am but I admit that I've played hooky a few times.

I generally go in every day at least to give it a go. If I'm really sick I'll head home early.
