While cats may not like to be IN water, it is actaully very common for cats to be curious and amused by running water. My cat does the same thing. I usually leave the bathroom door open a bit while in the shower, and when I open the shower curtain to get out, she's always waiting in the same spot! She jumps in after the water's off, and watches th edrops of water on the tub fall down...sometimes she chases them. Hehe. It's really cute. Sometime while you're in there with yoru cat, just turn on the bathwater a tiny bit and watch how curious he gets just watching it...it's so cute:o)
Also, when I take a bubble bath, she comes in and sits on the edge of the tub and paws at the bubbles. She usually lets her tail fall in the water too..do'nt know if she realizes it or not, but it's kinda funny to watch her walk around later with a wet tail.

I don't know why either, but I think it's hilarious. Mine gets in there and then acts offended because her paws are damp. I don't like the racket outside the door so she's allowed to be in the bathroom and she waits on the edge of the tub, outside the shower curtain. I can see her through it like Norman Bates in Psycho or something. Occasionally if I'm taking too long she peeks her head around the end of the curtain and stares at me.

I had a kitten who did the same thing. He freaked out until I finally let him in the bathroom, and then he would jump in.
The only thing I can think of, is loneliness when he can't see you (well, if your cat is an attention whore like mine). Some other cats are really curious as to what the heck you're doing in there behind a curtain.

I'm thinking curiosity. The cat didn't know what you were doing in there, and was trying to find out. When you let the cat in, he took a look around and found nothing of interest, so he left. He continues because he just wants to know what you are doing, even though every time he does he finds the same thing (that is, nothing).

He is interested in what goes on in there and likes to act you, get in and everything. Our cat likes to wait for you to get out of the shower and while still damp pet him, face and all, like he is getting a shower some how. Maybe your cat is doing the same.

It could be that the cat is confused by you allowing yourself to be tortured.
My cat used to howl the whole time I was in the shower. (we used a squirt gun as a behavioral device) I think the two were related.
Either that, or your cat just wants to get the same smell on him that you have on you.

Some cat's like water. But it's very rare. My kitten does the samething. I guess it's really depends on the cat.
