i want to partition my harddrive so i can go ahead and add another OS instead of having to install one and get rid of the other one

I'd recommend you to use Acronis Disk Director to partition your drive. Then you can use an utility of ADDS called Boot Manager to run and manage up to 100 Operating systems. ADDS also possesses such useful utilities as for example Partition Recovery.
Unfortunately ADDS isn't free but it costs the money you'll pay for it.

Try Partition Logic, it's free and works great. I have used it before.
