Is not as easy as you think it is. This are the questions you have to be prepared for. How did you come to the US? What is your status now? What country are you from? ( we have different policy for different countries), Why you want to stay under what circumstances? You really have to have an interview with someone who knows about immigration laws.
You will not have a straight answer until they know the answer of those questions above.

Well, since you are here illegally, it might be easier to go back where you came from and try to get a work permit to work and be here legally. then work your way into becoming a citizen, only if that's what you want. Nobody gets anything for free, so try it the legal way.
