Theres not some thing incorrect with it. children even do it even as 'exploring' which frequently occurs at age 3 or so. In fact thinking of some thing is related to the actions one is doing. For example in driving / racing you can think of cars. In biking, you can think of bikes.
Similary in masturbating one will surely think of some thing relevant and NOT irrelevant.
