It's not really breed-specific, but giving a dog any kind of food could make them sick. Depends on what the dog's allergies and food tolerances are. Stay away from chocolate, alcohol, and anything with corn in it. A new thing I learned is that Xylitol is poisonous to dogs even in small amounts. It's a sweetener that has been used in Europe for years and is making it to market in the US mostly in chewing gum. Keep that gum out of the reach of poochie!!

Call the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 or visit their web site to get the facts straight. www.aspca.org/apcc
This is the only source I trust (besides my vet).
Edit:
The person that talked about asking your grandparents and that dog food is a new concept needs to also think about the fact that just because we didn't know about the harm doesn't mean it didn't happen. How long did dogs typically live back when your grandparents had them? As technology progresses, our lifespans increase. It's the same thing with dogs and the developement of dog food.
I'm not against feeding your dog people food, mine are extremely spoiled. I just think you should be aware of what's out there that can have long term negative effects. These are effects that you won't see for years.

Too many table scraps are not good for them. You also have to be careful as to what kind - nothing chocolate, not anything with too much salt, sugar, fat or grease, not a lot of dairy either. Chihuahuas can become fat easily so you don't want to give them a lot. They can also have fruits and vegetables but, again, not a lot. Fruits shouldn't be too sweet - maybe just a bite of a banana. Our Chihuahua loves frozen peas.

Small dogs can't seem to tolerate human food the way big dogs can. I'd say it could happen, especially if the problem is coming out the back end!!!

It could. They are supposed to eat dog food, not people food. Treat him to a little yogurt (plain not fruit) some vanilla ice cream (plain vanilla) and don't give him human food.

Everytime I give my Bassett Hound human food, she gets the runs, so now, I only feed her dry food.

I dont beleive so, not specifaclly to chiuauas. Your dog shouldn't eat chocolate, alchohal beverages, a big portion of grapes or raisins, or human food in gerenal. It is ok to feed them human food, but it is best to keep it away from your dog.

Ask your grandparents or your great grand parents what they fed their dog in "the old days" and then ask them how the dogs did. Dog food is a relatively "new" thing in the grand scheme of things - they didn't always eat it til someone decided to market it. In moderation - it should be fine. But please don't make your little dog fat - uhh.
