For me it's human when it has a complete brain

Catholics believe it does, from the moment of conception. Church of England agrees with British law - after 24wks (ish) it is not right to kill a fetus. I don't know about other denominations, it'd be interesting to know more views.

I think the age for being human should be when the child has been born - I know there is little difference between a baby just about to be born, and a baby just born, but that is my view. And I do not think we are fully human until we can talk, think and express human emotion (please don't get at me for this! I just don't see how before that we are so different from monkeys!)

I don't really know about Religion, ma'am; but, I'd like to ask you to consider this fact.

Isn't it a fact that in all Religions, Life is considered to be God's Gift?

And, when, could we logically consider the Life to have begun?

At the very Conception, is not that Life already alive and growing? Just as much as we keep growing all through our lives till we cease to do that and are pronounced dead?

Then, ma'am, I submit that that the fetus has every right as much as any one of us who are "alive".

However, the Legal and Religious opinions may differ.

Do have a nice day, ma'am.

The Torah assigns specific damages to be paid if one inadvertantly strikes a woman causing her to miscarry...so the fetus obviously has value. Also, the cycle of ritual impurity and purity around menstruation is based on the loss of potential for life.

Jewish Law considers a newborn to be fully human. As for 'rights', Jewish Law is based on obligations, not rights...although there is the expectation that a child will be provided for until he or she can fend for themselves, at the very minimum.

It's amazing - all the STUPID and DIFFERENT answers are given by other atheists! Can't we atleast agree on this! We look like a bunch of roaches that scatter when the lights come on!

Especially the Unlucky fokker.........."For me it's when it has a complete brain". That sounds good, let's all go with that! Somebody should abort your stupid A$$ now! 'Cause your brain STILL ain't complete, and probably won't be.

How about this:
"Separation of church and state, have all the rights you want under religion, but when it comes down to it, religion has nithing to do with your federal rights".
Aren't we glad this basket case isn't in control!

Yes, because you are a living person with a living soul from the moment you are conceived, carried in the womb for nine months and then given birth to.

However, that is my belief. And I do not pass judgement, look down on, or practice hatred to those who have had abortions. I am by no means perfect myself. It is not for me to judge another.

Obviously the offspring of two human parents is human from the first moment he/she exists, and that is the moment of conception. Do you suppose the offspring of two human parents starts out life as some other species, and only becomes human partway through his/her biological development? That notion is absurd, both theologically and biologically.

God says in the Qur'an:

"And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We shall provide for them as well as for you. Surely the killing of them is a great sin."

Surah Al-Isra' 17:31 (interpretation of the meaning)

"O mankind! If ye have a doubt about the Resurrection, (consider) that We created you out of dust, then out of sperm, then out of a leech-like clot, then out of a morsel of flesh, partly formed and partly unformed, in order that We may manifest (Our power) to you; And We cause whom We will to rest in the wombs for an appointed term, then do We bring you out as babes, then (foster you) that ye may reach your age of full strength.

Surah Al-Hajj 22:5 (interpretation of the meaning)

Humanity begins before conception, when God decrees that a child will be conceived.

a fetus is not a baby until it is old enough to breathe outside the womb. end of story. It does NOT have a soul until it is old enough to live on its own or under special circumstances a baby can have a soul but its VERY RARE that a baby has one until it is out of the womb.
