I don't think so. Severe and complicated malaria takes time to progress. It can kill due to circulatory shock, kidney failure, haemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells), coma, irregularity of the rhythm of the heart, low blood sugar, fits.

no, malaria present with the same symptoms as the flu and it takes a relatively long time to get to the point that it will kill someone.

There are reports of deaths within 24 hours of onset of symptoms. In most cases of "rapid" death, symptoms have been present for a while and suddenly become severe.
