When I was 18, I was dared to walk into a Navy recruiter's office - 7 months later I was in boot camp. I really enjoyed it. Boot camp is difficult, but it is designed to "weed out" those who could not handle a military life. I stayed in 3 1/2 years, met my husband (who was also in for 8 years), and do miss it sometimes. If I would have stayed, I would have been in 25 years next May.
If it is what you want to do, go for it. But remember that you are signing a contract, and you can't just "quit" if you don't like it.

It depends. Do you have problems with crowds or claustrophobia? Do you have problems with authority (any military service is going to involve taking a LOT of orders, some of which may not make sense to you)? Do you get seasick or have a family history of mental health problems? Do you have a problem dealing with people in general, or people who aren't like you (foreigners, different races, different religions, etc)? Does the idea of packing up and moving every couple of years make you cringe?
Most importantly, do you want to serve your country, or do you just want a steady paycheck and medical insurance? Because if you don't want to serve... you probably are not going to be happy in the Navy.

There's a reason they have a saying: It's only queer at the pier... I believe the technical term is institutional homosexuality, like in prison...
As Sir Winston Churchill said, it's "nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash." They limit the rum to 1 beer per month, and I don't think they whip seamen anymore, so what's that leave?
If you want to be stuck on a ship/boat with 4000 other men for 6 months at a time, then go for it!

The navy is not the best choice. They tend to treat women and new people the hardest and most people that I've talked to about it hated it
The air force treats you well (my uncle has been in it for 20 years, so he'd know) and gives good benefits, or so I'm told
your best bet is definatly the air force
