People who walk often would know the answer to this. I sometimes walk/run in the street because a lot of people with fenced yards keep dogs in the front yard. I'm sure they are just tired of getting the crap scared out of them every day.

i know! that gets me soo mad. There is a sidewalk for a reason. I know some people walk on the side of the street in neighborhoods because cars are parked in the middle of the sidewalk, but ive seen people on main street walking in the biking lane or the side of the street even though their is a very large sidewalk right there!

It may be because the asphalt is softer than concrete. But, I think it's stupid. A lot of people die doing that. Many times, I've had to swerve to avoid them, however, if they were on the sidewalk, we'd all be safer.

Because nobody asked me if I wanted paving slabs between my feet and the Earth.
I walk on the road because its closer to the ground....
The only time I don't is when there is a grassy patch, then I walk on the grass.
[Plus as long as I'm not being hit by traffic... its not a problem, and I look more hardcore into the bargain.]
