Why don't M and M candies melt in cookies?

Because the candie coating is a protective shell, but the chocolate inside DOES melt. Also, the cookies aren't in the oven all that long.

the time of baking those cookies is not enough for them to melt. The just crack.

The saying melt in your mouth not in your hand , I guess it apply to the oven . Melt in your mouth not in the oven.

Maybe b/c they have the candy coating on the outside. I have no clue. that was just a wild guess.
