I want to know how the rating of speakers work? Alot uses RMS. IS there a formula for that? How do I compare 100 rms relative to someone saying 500W speaker?

RMS represents the heating power of the electric current. It is the best way to indicate the power in a complex wave. There is a formula for it (rms means root-mean-square):

The rms signal between time ∆T is given by

Srms = √[1/∆T ∫s(t)^2dt]
