Actually, that is why the Gideons put those Bibles there.
You are welcome to take them, if you will use them.
As one who contributes to the Gideons, you have my permission...

Stealing is most DEFINATELY a sin, however, what most do not realize is that they carry the word of God with them at all times. It is in knowing the difference between right and wrong and applying that knowledge in their every day lives. It is not about a book. Mostly it is called common sense and reasoned thinking! You do not need a book for that and therefore do not need to take anything that does not belong to you. I'm not at all sure what having no money has to do with it other than to say that no matter how much or little money you have, you have the word of God with you always by just having a brain, some common sense and capability for reasoned thinking. Hope this answers your question.

This is some what complicated.. it could be wrong or right depending on the intention. I don't think it would be stealing, if you took the bible purely to get the word of God then you did it out of your want to seek God, besides if your intention was only to get the word of God then you would return it after you got the word then its fine. But if you want to take the bible away for good and you take it without saying it would probably be a sin, but again I have to say that God, the judge of hearts could only say finally.

Yes, it's a sin. Stealing is stealing. Trying to make up exceptions is compromising.
Alot of Churches give out free Bibles -- mine does. You can also download free the Bible on your computer.
You need a Bible, pray about it, and God will provide. Many, many times God puts it in my heart to buy Bibles for people -- and not cheap ones, either.
But, on the toss side of the coin, although it would be wrong to steal a Bible, if mine got stolen, I would ask God to open a door for that person, and I would go get me another.
Once, when I was young, I had a Bible in my purse. I was talking out front of a grocery store where I worked, and a man came up to me, saw my Bible sticking out of my purse. He reached over, grabbed my Bible, glared at me in the face and said "I'm gonna take this, and I'm gonna read it and prove you Christians are wrong!!"
Two weeks later, he came through my check out line, and told me he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. I'm glad he stole my Bible.

Hypothetically, um...okay. But it may not be that hypothetical after all.
It's okay, and encouraged, to take the Bible that's in hotel and motel rooms. It says so in the front. It's part of the Gideon ministry. There is NO wrong and NO sin in accepting the Bible as a gift from the Gideons.
Good question tho.

I think I read that, ironically, the bible is the most stolen item. And yes, it's wrong to steal the bible. Stealing is a sin. I would find another way to get a bible besides stealing.

Yes, the end does not justify the means. There is one story in the Bible that illustrates this. Uzza, non-levite who knew God's command re. who should carry the ark of the covenant, did just that. The story goes that when the ark carried by the bulls were about to fall, Uzza tried to prevent it by touching and shoving the ark. He was killed. Point is, know God's laws and stick to them.
But, your illustration is a bit shallow. Why not just ask the hotel management if you can get the Bible coz you need it. I think they will be happy to oblige.

Yep. Stealing is stealing. God would provide a way for you to get a bible.
God would never let you be in a situation where you had to sin in order to follow Him. That would contradict His nature.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The bible is not the word of God. It was inspired by God. Written by men.
The book is made of paper and turns to ash.
The Word is God. It is a Might and power. It is spiritual as he is.
If you want to take the book, then do it. It's on your conscious.
Unless ofcourse God tells you to take it.
Why not just ask the Hotel manager if you can keep it?

Yes, it's still stealing, which is covetousness and is a sin.
There are plenty of places that will give you a Bible for free, so it's not as if the hotel bible is your only way to have one.
Peace.
