I found a puppy 2 weeks old on the streets and adopted it. From the first day i noticed that when it feels sad and alone, it bites its feet in agony. I tried to play with it and make it happier. Now its 5 weeks old and it bites me whenever i play with it, not aggresively but playfully. I try to grab it from the neck as suggested by a book i have, but the puppy turns and bites me harder:( Then i yell and make sound of being hurt, the puppy bites even more and all over my legs and hands (it gets more excited)

I really dont know what to do. I even thought to give it away to the municipality dog collect, i cant touch it withouth being bitten.

Thank you for any replies in advance, Anna

A puppy is like a child and you need to make it absolutely clear that you are the authority. When he bites grab his snout closing his mouth and hold it closed and make a loud angry sound. Reward the puppy for the slighest good thing he does when he does not bite you when playing. If you are immediately grabbing his snout and shouting at him when he bites you it will quickly stop.
There are also submissing training that may help. Put the puppy on its back and lay on top of him and use a very stern voice. This always works believe it or not. Good luck and don't give the puppy up, just take the challenge and you will have a loyal dog for your hard work.

A pup 5 weeks old should still be with its Mom and siblings; puppies are teething and biting helps them just like a baby needs a teething ring, pups need something to bite and chew on ; better that you give him something or he will look to find something for himself. It feels good on this gums to bite on things including your finger, he is far too young to even suggest aggression. Give him things that are acceptable a rubber toy with a treat; larger rawhide bone so he can't pull it apart but rather just uses it to gnaw on. You shouldn't be shaking the pup; it is with positive and patient training that you will be rewarded by a great pet. It doesn't happen naturally and doesn't happen overnight. A good dog breeder would have been picking up the pup and handling it so to get use to human touch; when he goes to bite, replace it with a toy or chew and praise him when he correctly goes to it. Allow him some time. Don't do any play such as tug of war etc to encourage this behavior ; make sure that he is getting checked by a vet for shots and deworming; all pups have worms from lactating Mom so it is common. It is tone of voice that will show your displeasure and he really will want to please you (not yelling) firm no and when he stops praise briefly - he will get the message. Calm and patience; give him something cozy to cuddle with; pups miss the siblings probably more than the Mom ; they huddle together or warmth, comfort and play. Give him plenty of exercise and stimulation ; a tired dog is less likely to have as much spunk. Touch will come with time especially for an abused animal ; it will happen ; good luck, enjoy your puppy

Sounds like you are feeding its behaviour. You are getting anxious. This pup likely has a huge level of anxiety from being abandoned. You need to make it feel secure and do not play with it unless it is calm and submissive. Even then I would limit my play - this is a VERY tiny pup. He never had a mom to teach him better. Yelling is NOT good. Look at it and make a hissing noise or some other disapproval.

Addition: Did some internet research. Linking to an interesting article.
Try giving it a dog-safe stuffed toy for companionship.

Anna, I just spent $178 on behavior modification training for my puppy. Basically all you need to know is ignore the behavior you don't want, even if it means just turning your back on it or walking away. Give it treats like bits of turkey hot dog for the good behavior that you want it to continue. I know its hard to ignore but by grabbing it around the neck or yelling at it, you are giving it attention and it will keep doing whatever gets it attention.

I had this same problem with my great dane puppy. the moment he starts acting up u need to act. i grap around him snout, squeeze gentley and say NO! at the same time. if he continues and anything u do doesnt seem to help, lay him on his side making sure his head doesnt lift off the ground. if it does or he tries to get up, push him back down and say NO! the point of this is to show him that u are the boss and he needs to listen to u. its a good way of telling him to calm down and that whatever hes doing is not acceptable. when he is completely calm and just laying there, go ahead and pet him gently on his side. after a few minutes u can let him up. by this time he should be snapped out of the playing and biting mode and be completly calm. eventually, the second u lay him on his side, he will snap out of the bad behavior and be calm right away.

Hi Anna,

Myself and my Boyfriend has a sibeiran husky and well he wasnt the greatest of pups either..

Once he starts bitting shout firmly No and hit him lightly on his nose if he still comes back for more keep a spray bottle with you with some water he will sure not like water in his face but try to play with some toys and try to convince him to bite his toys instead of your hands and feet, and take him out for more walks to take his energy away and maybe introduce him to more pupps his age socialisation is very good for pups at a young age..

Hope this helps

I don't like the sound of that behavior. Could indicate a long term behavior disorder. When the pup bites, try holding pressure down on the back of the tongue...almost like gagging it. This changes something pleasant and fun into something uncomfortable and not so fun.

Puppies have a natural tendency to bite. Make sure he has some chew toys around. And when you play with him put some thick socks on your hands. And hopefully he/she will chill out soon.

When my puppy does this, I take her (stuffed) toy and sorta shove it in her mouth playfully so she bites it instead of me
