I like to use Lemon oil cause it doesn't have a lot of wax that does build up and it is good for most furniture and has a good smell and it doesn't screw up are air.

use a damp wet cloth with a little dish soap on it then wipe clean with a wet rag with only water on it. wipe with the grain and let dry. Oils will only collect more dirt as the day goes on, and looks good for the first few hours. Then if you use the oil or furniture polish again, you're just polishing the polish. Hey, so I've been told when I purchased a nice bed room set. So, that's what I do now, no polish!
