I am a Baha'i myself and this is a sincere question asked with complete humility from anyone who is familiar with the profecies of Joseph Smith about the second coming of Christ. Is it true that he has said or written that Christ would return when he himself died? And that he would see Him again if he lived up to a certain age that I don't remember exactly?
If yes how are they interpreted by Mormons.

How old was Joseph Smith when he died? At what date?

The following is taken directly from section 130 of the Doctrine and Covenants:

14 I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following:
15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.
16 I was left thus, without being able to decide whether this coming referred to the beginning of the millennium or to some previous appearing, or whether I should die and thus see his face.
17 I believe the coming of the Son of Man will not be any sooner than that time.

As you can see, Joseph Smith never made any prophecies pertaining to when the Second Coming would be. He asked the Lord about it, but did not receive any answers. He was basically told not to worry about it.

To answer your other question, Joseph was 38 years old when he was shot to death on June 27, 1844.

The revelation sited by Brian is often only partially quoted by anti-Mormon saying that it is a prophecy that was not fulfilled because the Savior did not return in 1890 as one interpretation of the prophecy seems to indicate. They, of course, ignore the following verse in which Joseph pretty much states that he does not know what this means and then states that it is his personal belief that the Savior would not return before that time (which, obviously, has proven true). So, no, Joseph Smith never did make a prediction as to when the Savior would return. The closest he got was a prediction of when the second coming would NOT occur.

I do not particularly consider in any of the ones claims. The man wrote it in a seventeenth century kind english and the man lived within the nineteenth century. Makes no experience! A god does not desire a human to translate some thing and to write down it down. He could make his possess guide (or DVD or VHS). Now, that makes extra experience! Also, you do recognise that the church modifies the BoM as soon as in a even as? How many revisions has it long gone via? There is not any reformed egyptian. Archeology does not aid Joe Smith. No golden plates have ever been located and under no circumstances might be. ~~~~atheist, serving the atheist time table

This total news to me . . . I don't think it was said. I have heard various people speak on the signs to proceed the Second Coming, but no prophet has ever pretended to know when it would happen. The scriptures say no one on earth will know.
