"Smiting?!" The man who taught his followers to, "love thy neighbor as thyself?" The man who cautioned that the only person without sin should cast the first stone?
I think you're mixing up deities here, my friend. Are you not really speaking of Old Testament god of retribution? Jesus was a man, a teacher, of compassion. He taught that we should love. "Smiting," to the best of my knowledge, was not a word in his vocabulary.
