I tried it with my granddaughter this morning and she just sobbed and I had to go in the other room so she and her older sister wouldn't see me cry!

Sometimes, but nothing beat watching my husband cry because he had to put our 4-year old in the corner for being a smart aleck. He cried more than she did!!

Are you serious... My daughter is 11 and my son is 14 and i am a single mother...I still go and hide in the bathroom to cry and boy do I cry at times, after disciplining them... I think it means that us mothers and fathers have hearts too but the reason why we are the parent is because we need to do what is best for them and eventhough its for there good it does not meen that with dont see their pain or that we don t care... keep your chin up and go run yourself a nice bubblebath once you have won the battle after a long day...always think of you in the day and never forget that you are still a woman under your mask of mother. Be good to yourself being a mother is the hardest job i have done and sometimes I love it and sometimes i dont love it as much...does are the times i step back and regroup myself or else i am afraid that i will lose myself and then hate being not only me but hating being a mother or worse forgetting how much i loved it at first...take care from a mother to another

I have done the same thing with my children. It's a guilt thing because we think that our job to keep them happy all the time and if we don't,they might hate us.A lot of people give in to this guilt and,in my opinion, that's why we have so many undisciplined and disrespectful kids around nowadays. But don't worry, you did the right thing, especially not letting her see you upset because as she gets older she could use that to manipulate you.
Disciplining appropriately now will turn them into a respectful, well adjusted adult some day.

All the time. It's heartbreaking to hear them cry. It just means that you love her. :)

just remember that if she doesn't have these time outs she won't learn that she's doing something wrong. and if you give in every time they cry, they'll walk all over you and your life will be hell for the next 18+ years.

But you're a grandma, so you probably already know that.

It is hard because they are little and so cute but they have to learn discipline and the only way to do that is by being strong. I have found myself fighting tears as well but it is important that you keep stern and vigilant.

Yes, with my grandson, I feel so bad disciplining him but he just chooses to not listen. He looks so terribly hurt when i put him in the corner.

My children got a spank on the meaty part of their little butts...NOT BEAT...just a spank! Time outs don't work for every child! ANd I always say..This hurts me more than you...My son..who is 5 said...then can I spank your bum..cause that hurt my bum...BUT I walk away and can't cry...My son..learned about crocodile tears...and pulls them out whenever he KNOWS he's in trouble...Keep strong grandma!!! You'll be okay..

No- why cry about it? The kid isn't hurt.

I tried the time out crap and it doesn't work! We spank the bottom- it yields better results.
