I'm a 42 year old white female, I dye my hair at home, although the results are pretty amazing for the 1st couple of days, after a week the white hairs come out again all around the base of my hair around the face.

Someone told me there is something I should do to my hair before I dye it, but she can't remember what it is. Anyone knows of this technique?

Please help, salon hair jobs are too expensive.

By the way, eventhough I do my own hair dye, my hair is in great condition, soft and silky.

I use the Nice N Easy root touch up kit, and it helps with that alot. It's not as involved as coloring your hair all over. You might try using a differnt brand of hair color, also. Some brands don't seem to last as long as others.

Go to your local Sally's. They are full of predye treatments to help with hair coloring. Eventually the grey will show up again, and they have hair crayons just for this purpose.

I have a friend who is prematurely grey. When she used to color it herself, she had the same problem as you. She now has it done by a prof. hairdresser and that doesn't seem to happen anymore. I know you said it's expensive but, I don't know of any other way. Have you thought of going blonde? Seems to me the light roots would not show as much and you wouldn't have to pre lighten. Just a thought.

I have the same problem, but that is because when my hair grows, the sides and top hair show their gray color. That said, you need to color your roots every month, but also, change your face wash because this could take away the hair color around your face area.
