If I want to go camping in the mountains for a week, what should I bring?

I think these are the basics

1) a lightweight rain poncho with a hood
2) warm everything... NOT cotton. Wool blends, fleece and other synthetic fibers only. Bring clothes that can be layered... t-shirts... long sleeve shirts...lightweight jacket and a fleece.
3) long underwear... NOT COTTON
4) a tent that is suitable for whatever you will need to have covered from the rain if it does.
5) hand-wipes... good for other purposes too.
6) a hand spade and toilet paper
7) a long rope and a sack to tie your food in a tree at least 50 feet from your tent so that it and you won't be eaten by bears
8) a lighter that works
9) a compass and a map of the area you are going into if it is
a long way in
10) a note to your friends / family letting them know where you will be (leave this at home)
11) enough food and water for the length of your trip. High protein content foods are good... freeze dried foods are good since they need little water to cook. Also good to have food you can eat without needing to cook. Premade snacks are great... peanut butter... chocolate... power bars, etc.
12) a water purifying system if you are not able to carry in sufficient water
12.5) a water bottle suitable for day hikes
13) a sleeping bag rated below the lowest possible night temp.
14) a well fitted backpack
15) a walking stick... or you can find one along the way
16) a swiss army knife with a little saw on it
17) insect repellent
18) a good lightweight cookstove, utensils and fuel canisters
19) a garbage bag for "packing it out"
20) a hat and gloves
21.5) sunglasses
21) a good pair of walking boots/ shoes already broken in
22) a good book if you have room
23) a friend

...these next two should have gone higher in the list probably but I just remembered them...

24) a first aid kit with bandaids, gauze and antibiotic
25) a headlight so you can go "hands free" at night. And extra batteries
