I have been with this company for 4 months now and I am 5 months pregnant... which I did not know when I was hired. This is one of the best places I know for being an understanding type place- atleast what I can tell so far. They pay health insurance premiums 100%, I'm getting temporary disability during my maternity leave- 2/3 salary paid while I'm gone, and they seem to be very understandable with my doctor's appointments and such. I feel like they are doing so much for me already- but here's what I've been thinking.... I am diabetic and this is my third child. The first two came early, mostly from pushing myself too hard toward the end. The kind of work I do can be done from home with the proper computer programs and a decent computer / laptop. Would it be asking too much if I asked them to loan me a laptop and let me consult from home- starting like 4 weeks from my due date to the end of my leave? I'm afraid of being told no and being let down- need some input!! THANKS!

It wouldn't hurt to ask, but make sure you have all you ducks in a row before you ask. Be prepared for questions and such.
Also, be prepared for them to say no. They are well within their rights to say no to your proposal.

Offer it as an option for them. Tell them in case of early delivery you would be willing to do the work from home if you could be loaned a lap top and there were no problems with you working from home according to their policy. If they say no, (they may have a good reason) leave it at that. You offered. It can not be a demand or a negotiation for more time, make it an offer in thanks for them being so understanding.

Give it a shot--- just tell them how you feel, say you don't want to leave them high and dry, as they have been so good to you, and you think you could do your job from home if they loaned you the computer.

We tried to do that at my job. I dispatch ambulances (non-emergency ones), so we were going to transfer the phones to my house. I already had access to the network from my computer. The doc nixed it though, can be kinda stressful and I got put on bed rest a few weeks ago. Hope it works for you though. Sounds like you got it made either way!

It might actually be more productive for them if u worked from home - more time doing work. Normally u have to get up, get stuck in traffic, leave to go to the doctor etcetc.
If u were at home the only time ud be going out, is to the doctor.
If they say no, well at least u know
I dont think that will think that u r asking too much of them.

I probably wouldn't ask. It sounds like you have a very cool job and very lax job. If they thought that that was an option I'm sure they would have offered. You are very Lucky to get paid leave even if its only 2/3. Good luck!

they sound like a very reasonable company so get it all lined up and on paper and then ask them. doesn't hurt. all they can say is no and then you continue to work at the office.
