Seals would be imo the best you can apply for.

Then, there is one you just need to be invited into.

There are Special Forces and Special Forces. The Navy Seals are the benchmark of physical endurance and specialized assault training. The Army Special Forces have a little more in the way of specialty training and a variety of jobs, but really are not as macho as the seals in many ways. The Army Rangers are the real bug-eaters of the Army. They are the counterpart of the Seals in many ways. The Air force has its Special OPs group similar to Special Forces and the Marines have Force Recon, which is the forward deployment unit for the Corps. None of these elite groups can be joined from outside. They have to be earned by serving meritoriously for several years and then applying for the training. The training can be extremely arduous and the drop out rate for the Seals is over 50%.

The green berets and navy seals are the special forces units in the military, but you have to train long and hard to get on. Contact a military recruiter to answer how people can train to get on the special forces units. The Green Berets and the Navy Seals go all over the world and they're assigned when they take out drug cartels and other threats to society and security. You should do a research online about what exactly the green berets and navy seals do and how they carry out their missions.

Mike:

You ask, "What is the best special forces group in any of the US military branches?".

I spent 22 years on active duty in the US Military. My answer is, "It is the one you never heard of". If you are good enough, you will get an invitation.

The Navy SEALs. Marine Corps Recon is pretty good, too.
