My friend just took a seemingly dead fly from the ground, breathed on it and it came back to life and flew away. What in the world is going on? I kicked him out of my house and told him he's possessed.

Ben Franklin noted a similar effect when he found a 'dead' fly in his French wine. It seems he fished out the body and left it to dry out, whereupon it awoke and after a few minutes was able to fly away. This make Franklin decide he wanted to be pickled in french wine when he died.
No, it didn't work on him.

if you put a fly in the freezer for a little while he will look like he is dead. but if you hold it in your hands, or breathe on it, it will 'come back to life'.
its a simple trick. no need to freak out.

HA HA HA...that's an old trick!
Put a bit of salt on the "drowned" fly, and it absorbs the water...and Mr. Fly miraculously rises from the dead!
(P.S. you can win lots of money in the bars that way.....)

Either your friend is the second coming of christ..... or the fly is, and your friend had nothing to do with it.
You need to decide which of them you're going to prostrate yourself in front of quickly... because if you make the wrong choice you'll be jabbed with Klingon Pain-Sticks forever in hell.
