I think that you need more than a friend...I think that you need someone that you can talk to who can help with why you are feeling this way. Best of Luck!

Get counseling. You need more confidence, and you can get some from excelling in karate, but if you let that be your only thing you're focused on, you will be very devastated if you lose a competition.
Don't be a perfectionist, it will ruin your life! I know because i struggle with the same thing, and i hate it when someone is better than me!
But back to the counseling, tell them all you are dealing with. they will have some suggestions. If you are feeling this bad, you are probably not ready for a relationship and should just try to make friends. people get really put-off when you talk about yourself too much or complain about how you look, or even just pout and look miserable. So try your best to be more open and a listener. Be supportive of the other people who train in karate with you. congratulate them when they do well. Soon you will genuinely feel happy for them and stop worrying about yourself and not being "good enough". You become better by being around other people who are successful or good at what they do. So don't let it intimidate you when people are better at something. that's what I found works for me.
best of luck!

It relies upon what you have already tried. start up with the least extensive concepts first: workout, eating a healthful weight loss plan, speaking to human beings approximately your issues, and seeing a therapist. attempt analyzing melancholy self help books. medical doctors and therapists could propose you to attempt medicine. you may attempt organic meds like St. John's Wart or prescription pills. Staying confident is yet another component to attempt doing. If not one of the above artwork, you may get ECT (electroconvulsive clinical care), which shocks your techniques to help the melancholy and is in many cases purely used for severe melancholy. yet another, yet much less uncomplicated, determination is TMS (transcranial some thing...) that's analogous to ECT yet has much less hazards and is far less severe. consult with a physician approximately your indications and notice what else you're able to do to help your self.

It's OK to care about how you look, but not to obcession. It's OK to want others to think well of you, but you can't please eveyone. The fact that one girl turned you down doesn't mean ALL girls will.
I suggest you get involved in church, not as a means to meet girls, but to get involved in youth groups. I believe this will help you get some friends, show tou trhat YOU are not alone in the way you feel. And if along the way you get Christ in your heart....Hallelujah!!
Good luck.
