Also will it cost more if i need to have a head brace because my two front teeth are quite significantly protruded? Also does the cost quoted by an orthodontist include the price of the regular checks ups to have my teeth and braces cleaned and to have the brace tightened.

P.S. I have tried to get them on the NHS and although I am eligible there is a 3 year waiting list which I am not prepared to wait for!
Furthermore is it possibly to have braces fitted in another country where dental fees are cheaper and then have regular check ups with an orthodontist over here or do you have to carry on having treatment with the same dentist that fitted the brace!

Hello, before i can give you definite answers i need some more information, but will try my best with what you've said.

Firstly, the government in the UK has DRASTICALLY cut down the number of orthodontic problems we can treat on the health service. Now, only severe problems can be treated free of charge on the NHS and there are quotas which we have to meet. Once we reach are quota there is no more funding available!

The 3 year waiting list you are talking about, is that with a local dentist or through a hospital?

You should check out the British Orthodontic Societys website which is http://new.bos.org.uk a dentist registered with them should have sufficent credentials. Also look out for the qualification MOrth which means the dentist has undergone specialist training in orthodontics (the science of braces!)

Lastly, getting them done abroad and asking a dentist to do the "check ups" over here is almost impossible. A dentist agreeing to do that would be opening themselves up to alot of problems... what if the ortho isnt what u wanted, what if the treatment plan is incorrect.. who are u going to blame?

In one of the research forays and short listing Dental Care India Tour, I was quoted US$3000 that included ceramic braces, 30 days of hotel stay with breakfast, and three additional visits to the clinic for braces tightening before departure along with treatment transfer file. An addition of $1000 was needed to get invisalign.

Speak to your dentist, he/she should give you the advice you seek, local to your area. Research any ortho recommended, i had a poor ortho and my teeth are better but not as good as they could have been. How old are you? Is three years impossible, is there another NHS provider in another area with a shorter list and transfer back once treatment commenced. See your dentist!

Get ready for a bank loan!!!

A standard course of treatment lasting about 18 months using upper and lower fixed appliances will cost between £2800 and £4000.
