Satan does one thing and one thing only--he whispers. He whispers into the hearts and minds of every individual and tells us to do bad, mischevioius, awful, evil, and ugly things. He never actually does anything evil, he just suggests it. It's human beings who do the bad/evil things, per his prompting of course. Still, we are ultimately responsible for whatever action we take, we allow the devil's whisperings to overcome us and we act upon his evil suggestions, so we're the one's to blame.

He is responsible for the downfall of mankind because of precipitating the events in the Garden of Eden.

Because of his pride, he was banished from heaven. In response, he has set out to destroy God's greatest creation, namely you and me. He does so by creating confusion and disillusionment, telling you there is no God, or that He doesn't care about you.
