a colleague at work didn't eat for a month, lose 3 stone of weight and its stayed off. Does this work? will i lose alot of my muscle??

Yes, the weight will stay off if you change your food choices. Like any diet, if you return to what you used to eat you'll return to what you used to weigh.

Water fasting is the original "diet". If you have sufficient body fat and no kidney problems it's perfectly safe.

You should do your own research, but you'll find that the body develops redundant systems in a fast. Our ancestors didn't have grocery stores and fast food places on every corner, so sometimes there wasn't any food for a few days or weeks. Where we may need 50-60 gm of protein ordinarily, after 10-14 days on a water fast, the need drops to less than 20 gm and is obtained from old and diseased tissue (this happens anyway).

Keep in mind that as you lose weight your existing muscle mass is no longer needed in it's entirety. The muscle need to lug around 250 lbs is more than what's needed at 150 lbs and the body cannibalizes the unneeded muscle.

You can check Dr. Joel Fuhrman's website, a New York City physician who supervises water fasts for morbidly obese patients that last several MONTHS.

No this does not work, and I find it very hard to believe that your colleague managed to lose 3 stone without eating. Was she just on protein shakes or something, if she was this was a silly way to lose weight because she may not be putting on the weight at the moment, but as soon as she starts eating again the weight will go on. If you lose weight this way you will lose muscle

If you want to lose weight the best way is to do it sensibly and slowly. There is no quick fix for losing weight it takes time, if you eat less, cut out foods that are high in fat and drink more water, eat more fruits and vegetables and foods that are high in fibre you will be able to lose weight.

I don't know your weight, but I suggest you check the links I'm giving below. Chances are diets don't work or make you gain all weight and then some when you start eating normally again.
By having 100 to 400 flavorless calories a day, you can reset your weight set point to your ideal weight. No hunger, no special foods, no pills, no exercise (you may add some if you want, for the health benefits but it isn't a must).
Don't waste another day, see the link below and then the boards. You will be amazed at the quantity of people having success!

You should NOT do this. It is extremely unhealthy. You will lose the nutrients in your body and your body will begin to eat its own proteins--your muscle--for nourishment. This is an extremely dangerous path to take, one that can lead to full blown eating disorders and it WILL lower your immune system. Do NOT do this and make sure your colleague doesn't do it again.

That person lost muscle. Your body needs protein to live and if it doesn't get an adequate amount, it feeds on the muscles. Fat is not muscle tissue. This is not a healthy diet.

sure your colleague may have lost body weight but it was all muscle, not fat. Your body's natural, defensive reaction is to store fat. Tell your colleague to test his/her body fat percentage and I guarantee they'll be unpleasantly surprised.

The diet definitely works, however, please remember, your heart is a muscle. Once you lose it, there is no getting it back. I'm sure everyone will say you looked great in your coffin.

See a nutritionist and stop listening to your friend.

yes lots of muscle your body in starvation converts muscle yto fat to produce energy.
