Anything you say that they can't readily answer is likely to offend them. That shouldn't make you shy away from answering them.

Unfortunately you can't because fundamentalist religion glorifies blind faith to such an extent that the fundamentalist christians religious beliefs become a key part of what defines them as a person. Any challenge to their beliefs is felt as a huge person attack. It also means that they just plain won't listen properly (hear no evil) and will latch on to anything to support their position, whether it's reasonable and whether they really understand it, or not. So it's virtually impossible to have a reasonable, intellectually honest and logical debate like you expect to over science.

I should remember this more often when I get involved in arguments with them. It is hard when they can be soooo obnoxious and when the anti-science propaganda they clutch to, and spread, is potentially so destructive. But evolution doesn't disprove God, just their narrow interpretation, and science is very important.

Depends on what YOUR arguement is. I have come to the conclusion that it is entirely possible for Christians AND evolutionists to be correct in their different views. I believe that the arguement can be settled by simply saying that it does not matter one way or the other. God has existed for ALL time. Even before the beginning of time. he is the essence of absolution. The best way to solve the issue is to simply say that things came to be, how ever they did, because God planned it that way. If there was evolution and the Big Bang theory and all that, it was because God made it happen that way. Everything that has every happened at all has been according to God's plan. Everyone has their own opinion of how everything and everyone came to be but the bottom line is that it started with God and creation. Everything and every concept has a divine root. So, you see, the Evolutionists CAN be right, even if their beliefs are not complete. Hope this helps!

For those of you with negative comments about Christians, I happen to be one. Not all of us have unquestioning minds or are blind to things based on faith. I happen to question everything. even my faith. I KNOW I do NOT have all the answers. BUT, I am FULLY capable of reasoning things out. I personally think that the arguement over this particular issue is a waste of time and intelect. It is simpler to say both sides could easily be correct by themselves but could also be correct as two parts of the same whole. The bigger question is Why do we waste our time arguing over it. We will find out the answer eventually. My bet is that both beliefs are correct. I think this to be a perfectly logical statement and one that would settle the arguement until we all find out for ourselves. I truely believe it is as simple as that and that it is pointless to even argue about it. That is just my personal opinion. People put WAY too much energy into arguing over things that are pointless. Christian, Evolutionist or otherwise, our questions, doubts, etc. will be resolved eventually.

To be honest the fact that you readily admit that you think of this as an 'argument' and are so set out to 'win' concerns me. The likely hood is that if you both enter any discussion with that attitude you'll just end up having a screaming match rather than any intelligent discussion or debate.

The truth of the matter is that neither side can 'win' because neither has unequivocal proof of what they say. One of you believes that it is all answered by evolution, the other that it is all written in the Bible.

To the Evolutionist I ask, why do you think it is called the -Theory- of Evolution? It is just a theory, it is not proven fact. Yes, as time passes species adapt to changes in the environment because certain individuals possess certain traits which make them more likely to survive. We can prove that species adapt to their environment, not yet can we prove that one species becomes another.

An often cited example of 'evolution' is the peppered moth slowly becoming darker winged to camolflage agaisnt trees in a polluted area. Individuals with slightly darker wings survived because they weren't seen as easily by predators and so offspring inherited more dark genes and the wings of moths in the area slowly got darker. But they are still peppered moths. Archeopteryx was preceeded by many species of fully-fledged members of the bird family. We, Homo Sapiens, weren't preceeded by Neanderthals at all, we coexisted. In fact one theory would have us believe that Neanderthals are merely Homo Sapiens suffering Rickets or arthritis or any other of a small number of disorders. Not yet has a 'missing-link' been found that has not tunred out as a hoax, a mistake or a scientist grasping at straws.

To the Fundamental Christian I ask, before God created day and night in the middle of that first week... how long was a day? Especially if the only being around was one to whom one sencond and a thousand years are so often quoted as seeming identical. Would it not be easier to believe that a book written down people who use so much analogy, euphemism and metaphor in their daily speech would not also contain these very same things?

Both parties are taking their 'answers' on faith alone. The evolutionist has dug up no fossils and believes their answer only because they have been taught it. In fact it is only the current leading theory of how we came to be. The Christian believes that God placed us all here. Neither can sit opposite a table from the other and place done unequivocal proof of their point of view. You can only offer your beliefs and explanations of why you believe them.

So the two points of view are not provable. Nor are the two theories mutually exclusive. Presented with a pool of primordial soup that had happily existed for thousands, if not millions, of years that suddenly created a single celled organism; would it truly be madness to suggest that it had done so under the guidance of a higher being? Nor must the answer be either or both of these opinions, many more exist in the world and an infinite number of further ideas that no one has yet thought of. One of which could be correct.

So instead of being so set on being told you're right, both parties should accept that their theories are unproven and flawed to a certain degree. Let each other know what they believe and accept that two different people have two different ideas. There is conflict enough in the world without people inciting more over something in which neither side has any prrof whatsoever.

I, myself, am a Christian and believe that God created the world. I don't know how He did it. I don't much care. I just believe he did and that's enough for me for now.

You can't win period. Randomist creation hasn't been proven, nor has evolutionary creation been proven. It's as hypothetical as religious creationsim.

Please, now, go shake a test tube full of inorganic chemicals and come back when you create some Amino Acids and paramecium DNA spontaniously without any PHYSICAL (e.g. "intellegent design") interference.

You're NOT allowed back here until you make life happen in a test tube.

Otherwise you're talking through your hat just as much as JErry Fallwell or PAt Robertson!

If you can't PROVE your contentions on a repeated basis you have only conjuecture to bring to the debating table.

You can start by drumming through their thick skull what evolution really is. It is defined only as genetic change within any given species through time-nothing to do with the origins of life or "something coming from nothing" or any of the other irrelevant crap that creationists like to drag into the debate. Be aware in any case that there is no real debate-creationism is nothing, quite literally. You don't need to expend effort on nothing.

Some people you can;t help but do it. I personally respect your beliefs in evolution, but disagree with them. I would like to see how you are approaching it. I have been in several debates over this topic where people basically called me dumb for believing in something that can;t be proven....whether or not im right its my belief and for someone to belittle me is offensive. As for how to win, you probably won't. I mean really, how much of a chance would I have at getting you to believe in creationism? I don;t know that winning is the right thing to go for, more of getting them to accept that you have valid points and to accept what you beleive, whether or not they think its right. You will not get anywhere with this if you too, can;t do the same thing!

Personally I think Everyone has it wrong.
Creationists are clueless. They base their theory on Genesis When God created Everything in 6 days, and on the readings that a thousand years is like one day to God.

2Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Psalms 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

The theory is crap, because Carbon dating proved Everything on this little planet of ours is allot older than that.

Personally I believe God made it all, but not in the way everyone else believes.

If I were you, I'd side step the question, and peacefully get on with other topics. This can only ensue in warfare with Creationists. They refuse to see logic.

Creationists base their belief on "faith". This is another way of saying they ignore facts. It is not possible to win an argument about religion with someone. Change the subject. The world's educated minds are on your side already.

Fundamentalists are immune to objective truth. If they were not, they would not be fundamentalists. Besides, nothing pisses off a fundie and increases their fervor like having the weakness of their claims exposed. It's like telling your teenage daughter not to date the gang member. The more you point out his faults, the more she wants to have his babies just to spite you. You may as well debate color coordination with a blind man.

There's no battle. Evolution is carrying on its work whatever the creationists say. And you can't convince a creationist, as it is a belief, not a science branch.
