I'm 19 and my boyfriend, Craig, is 24. His friend and girlfriend are coming up for dinner. Here is the problem: I'm dreading going because I'm so shy, and I also feel embarressed of my age when everyone else can drink. It's embarressing when everyone has to get IDed because there's someone under 21 at the table.

Last time this sort of thing happened, the waitress made such a big deal over IDs and embarressed me. I just wanted to leave when Craig ordered shots for everyone.

I'd hate to ruin the good time, but I really don't want to go. I'd drink to losen up before we go out, but just being my age and being shy is enough to make me not want to go. Not only that, but everyone always likes to go to bars after dinner, and I'd just ruin the fun because I can't get in.

I'm going to talk with Craig later (he knows how I feel but not to this extent).

don't worry so much.
The unwelcomed attention is only on you for 2 seconds and then everyone else has moved on to the next thing and forgotten all about it while you are obsessing about being embarrassed. You should never apologize for your age, no matter how old or young you are. That is the one thing nobody can change.

unfortunatly that is the kind of thing that happens when you date someone older when you aren't 21 yet.. And you still have 2 years of this so you have to make a decision.. find some new friends to hang out with or keep getting embarrased.. he is 24 and he is a man that likes to go out so you can't make him stop doing this otherwise he will resent you for not letting him live his life... when you are 21 he will be 26 then you guys can hook back up or he may not want to do all the partying then.. these are just chances you are going to have to take??? Sorry but these are the facts of life?

i don't see anything here that would indicate that you are ruining their good time. when it comes to age, there really isn't anything we can do about it. there is nothing wrong or embarassing about being asked for ID. it's just a simple step that restaurants have to go through to make sure they aren't breaking the law.

personally, i am sort of in a similar situation. when i was 24, i decided to quit drinking for health reasons. so when i go out with friends, i am usually the only one not drinking alcohol. but other than that, i do my best to fit in with friends. bottom line, you can still have fun chatting and socializing without the alcohol.

Im in your same situation. Im 20 and my BF is 22 so wht we do is when he is with me nd his other friends he won't order a drink since i can't drink...... legally. Lol. Then maybe later him and his friends can go out to the bar or where ever to catch up and they can all drink. Or you can go to the Store and make drinks at home that way everyone wins.

it is the law in most states that anyone under like 30 be ID. i am 25, and my boyfriend is 31, and we both get our ID's checked if we go out drinking. so dont feel embarassed, its what the bar has to do.

Tell your boyfriend to start taking you somewhere you can enjoy yourself as well.
