Akbar is Arabic for 'Great' as in Allahu Akbar (God is Great).
The usage of Akbar as a name is more commonplace among Muslims in the Indian Subcontinent. Akbar the Great was a 16th-Century Mughal Emperor of India who actually initiated an interfaith dialogue so much so that he founded his own religion 'Din-Ilahi' (Divine Faith). Google it at

It's not a "Muslim" name as much as it is an Arabian name. Akbar means big or great in Arabic. To be a Muslim name it would be something centered around religion, such as Muhammad, Khadijah, Iman (which means faith), Abdullah (Servant of God), etc.

Its an Arabic word meaning Larger. When we say Allah Akber, we mean God is the Largest, e.i. non is larger than God.
Arabic not Muslim, but the Quran is in Arabic, so there is the connection.
