why have people seemingly come to accept that its normal/ok for every piece of ground to have plastic crap floating over it?
why are parents and the culture generally turning out more kids who are selfish and superficial? is it that the parents themselves are losing their decency and respect for other people?
why are people not pressurising councils to make it a higher priority
there...that should be enough to get your teeth into!

It's a problem caused by people of all ages. I've seen kids dropping litter in the streets, I've seen OAPs throwing rubbish out of their cars ! It has to be said that there are nowadays two types of people in Britain, those who care about others and their environment, and those that don't. Those who do care generally try to instill the need to respect others and the environment into their children, those that don't care, don't care and don't seem to bother to teach their children to care either. I dare say the problem has been getting worse for a long time, but it does seem to have got a lot worse recently !

Totally agree! Having travelled a lot over the years, I am sad to say that England rates one of the dirties and trashed places I know. My children were brought up to take trash home, even sweet papers, in pockets, cleared out on arrival home. They still do it today, and pass this on to their children.

On a coach trip recently, I noticed mile upon mile of litter, what a sad sight!

How about using the less serious offenders, graffiti artists, those who THINK it makes them someone, to chain gang as in USA and clear the litter for a change. Hence putting their time to something more worth while, and help us all take pride in our Country, but the rubbish picking up the rubbish, might bring them down a peg or two??? Along with some of their so called parents might not be bad idea!?

Like yesterday following an SUV on I-94 with four adults (not teenagers)that threw a bunch of MacDonalds bags out the window at 75 mph. To freakin' important that they can't wait until they get to a gas station to throw away. In fact, it was before 9:00 AM, so they were probably on their way to church. Gee, I wonder where the kids get their bad habits from.

Its because of the last 2 generations - the kids today are not the main problem, they are only the result of bad parents.

Not all kids are bad - a neighbour of mine was caught dumping some old plastic garden chairs, some household rubbish and garden waste over her back fence, the old ***** is in her 70's...

Did you see that recent report damning English kids as the worst in Europe? In England (say Britain) we have a dramatic breakdown of family life and family values. One of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy and no family support to back it up.

Kids grow up without respect for themselves, for their friends, for the neighbours. This spills in to everything they do and since its now been going on for well over a generation there are now kids as described above with kids of their own.

Hopefully this is still the minority, but you can never tell.. the family next to me seem decent enough but their kids throw litter on our lawn, and let their dustbin bags split and their rubbish drop on to our lawn without making effort to pick it up. Still, coming from a family who produce 5 sacks of rubbish every week and never recycle, this isn't much of a suprise.

Oh, and they swear at my wife too..

And for those people saying.. oh but I don't do it, or oh but my kids wouldn't do it.. maybe not, but for everyone one of you that doesn't do it, theres probably at least one who does.

Please don't prejudge. I am sixteen and I know for a fact that there are people my age who recycle and take care of the environment that YOUR generation have polluted, typical golden oldy, try to shift the blame on us younger generation who haven't even inhabited the planet as long as you have. So very typical.

It's a dog eat dog world, and the dogs are selfish and only care about their immediate gratification. Still, do your best to make the world better. You are not alone.
