I am a 6' 2" guy, does that matter when choosing? I know nothing about bikes, I need one to get around for a few weeks, to pedal to work and whatnot.

u should consider getting companys like haro,kona,norco,specialized,tr... and gt. start with kona, specialized and giant they make good bikes and they are cheap for bikes within the same range. for kona look for stuff, lavadom or scrap
norco:shore series
haro:v series
specialized:any thing they are all good and cheap
ironhorse:make almost unbreakable bikes but they are heavy
banshee:morphine series

before buying the bike make sure that the dimonds of the frame should be small and points upwards the tyres should be wide and with lots of rubber studs. the fork should have atleast 100mm of travel better if beond 130mm. the suspention brand that you should look for is marzochii or rock shock they are the most common ones. if you dont like the suspention then you might consider spending an other 500$ on bomber shocks they are good qualityed stuff. i recomand a hard tail because they are easier to ride up hill and gives lots of air. and is cheaper and lighter. you should look for disk breaks but if the bike dont come with them v breaks are good too exept over time they dig into your rim and shorten the rim's life.

or you can consider hybrids they are meant for road rideing and is more comfortable than moutain.

roadbikes can also work they are a bit expensive and cant take much damage. but they go very fast!

but if you want to look cool and fell comfortable get a westcost chopper!! they look pimped out with huge hind wheel and a motor bike like look!! they even have leather seats!!
hope this helps.

Guetting a bike that fits you is the most important. Yep, it was weird when guetting my first bike, the first question was 'how tall are you?'. Since a bike is a machine that interacts a lot with you, it is very important that you have a right fit bike. A bike shop should take this into consideration.

There are several type of bikes: road bikes, mountain bikes, confort bikes, hybrids, thriatlon, BMXs, etc., etc., etc..

If you just want to go to work on paved roads, but you want to be confortable, probably a confort or a hybrid bikes can be your best option. Another option is buy a mountain bike and put some street tires on it, since they are more confortable than a road bikes, and will be very versatile if you decide to ride off road often.

If you really want to travel fast, a road bike is your best bet, they're designed for speed on pavement, the gear ratios and bike geometry are oriented towards it. The downside is that if you go offroad, they're not going to be able to do it. Probably you can go on some smooth roads, but very carefully.

If you really don't want to ride offroad, aren't particular about speed, go with a hybrid or a confort bike.

Regarding wheel pressure, it depends on the bike. Road tires require a lot of pressure, but mountain tires usually go for a lot less (between 30 and 50).

Either a medium or a large size bike should fit you. A mountain bike can be a duel purpose. On the street or trail the tires should be able to handle the task. Though a little slower than a road bike you'll be less susceptible to flats with the right tire inflation. Get a helmet and ride safely. Good luck!

If you're just going from point A to point B around town, try a bicycle designed for urban use. There's different Kinds. Single speed (one gear) multi speed (7,8,9) different gears are in that range. Your inseam is a way of choosing what size bike you need. It can determine the standover height of the bike. Maybe 1" from crotch to the top tube. A suspension seat is nice, as is a front suspension. Straight handle bars or comfort type are the way to go. Good luck choosing.

if it is just for a short while then you can rent a bike.

for riding on the road don't choose a mountain bike, they are hard work.

if you decide to buy a bike to keep for a long time, get a bike shop to measure you properly. They will make sure you get the correct frame size.

it is very important to keep the tires at the correct pressure. These days it is somewhere between 50 and 90 psi, I think. Too soft makes for a terrible ride.

Go to a bike shop, and see what they have. If you are only looking to ride it for a few weeks then go to a used bike shop, or rent one. When you rent, the shop will set you up properly so no worries. You might be able to pick up a used bike pretty cheaply but you’ll probably have to go to a bike shop to figure out about what size you need. At 6’2” you might have a hard time finding something right away.

What bike you choose is important. I suggest you go to a local bike shop. You can look through different makers' catalogs. Also you might try makers' websites. Think about what you want to do with the bike. There are many different types of bikes to choose from.

Good luck !

you should probably get a cross between a cruiser and a mountian bike. somthing with front suspension only (unless you ride through the woods to get to work) test ride the bike before you buy it. if you feel comfortable then get it. more gears will help you get moving faster also. most modern mt bikes will have 21-27 total speed (3 front gears x 7-9 rear) i also reccommend trigger shifters instead of the old school twisters. you shift by pushing either of two triggers with your thumb and pointer finger. they require minimal effort to shift.
if your only using it for a short time, then you shouldnt spend alot of $$ on a bike. check out target if your really low budget. if you have a descent amount of bank, then check out sports authority or ***** sporting goods. they have descent bikes for fairly loe prices. good luck
