She's been acting weird the last couple of days. She's always meowing, but not a normal meow.. kinda like she's in pain. She's also been laying down on her front legs, and standing up on her back legs with her but in the air. When we try and get close to her she sticks it out even more and starts meowing and shaking. Is this normal? She's only 5 1/2 months.

She is definately in heat...however it sounds like an early bloomer! She will go out of it and then right back in heat within 2 weeks. All of my cats have acted that way...I just would pat them at the base of their tails to make them feel better and let them know I care and love them :o)

It's very typical for kittens at this age to start showing signs of going into heat.the last sign is bleeding and the best thing i would suggest would be to get her spayed as soon as possible. She will be alot happier and you will not have to worry about her discomfort . I would also suggest keep her separated from any other cats you may have until she goes thru her cycle.

My cat whined like she was dying and she always had her tail up like she was waiting on a male to come up behind her. This is a HUGE sign that shes in heat. Mine also would just fall over and lay on her back

Definitely in heat! Please go get her spayed--do not delay! Cats get pregnant easily and often. There are too many unwanted cats and kittens. At our local Humane Society, 80-90% of cats and kittens are euthanized. That is so sad : (

Yes it is normal because she is in heat.
My cat did the same thing.
And wanted to go out side.
And meow the same way.
You cant stop it from being in heat,
Or.

Take her out all the time.
buy lots of toys.
She will get over soon.
It takes time.

oh yes - your little girl is definately in season!! Cats show their bottoms a lot and cry when they are ready - I think its called "presenting" themselves!
if you don't want kittens try and keep her in the house!

yup she's in heat.
I hope you like kittens!
if you don't want to have her sterilised, there are feline contraceptive pills available which suppress her being in heat.
