Using your computer in a dimly lit room is better for your eyes. If you are reading a document while typing, have the light directly on the document but not on the computer screen.

I heard that it makes no difference. If your monitor is working properly, then there is no reason to believe that you would be straining your eyes. However, if you are reading in the dark, then yes, it might be harder on your eyes.

Remember, your monitor is just as bright when the lights are off as when they are on. Whether or not you are sitting in darkness will not affect what you are looking at.

continual darkness may strain the eyes
lessen the side effects by taking kelp / seaweed or frequensea
leave smoky quartz in a jug of water overnight, drink the water next day, (being careful to leave the quartz in the jug)!
have a bowl of smoky quartz on your desk, wash or stand in sunlight weekly

I'd think in light, but would also love a professional opinion on this one. Hope someone knows!!

if it's a CRT monitor then i prefer ambient light, if its a flat screen (LCD, TFT, Plasma), then a pitch dark room.
