My husband brought this cat home from his rental property where he was left. He was timid at first but has now warmed up yet he still wants to use the couch for his business. I need help to solve this problem.

Wow, my kitty did the same thing when we brought him home. I was hysterical when I sat down and smelled urine on my couch!! Here's what I had to do to stop it, first clean the area thoroughly with natures Miracle, this was the only thing that eliminated the odor, trust me, I spent a fortune trying to kill the smell and when in a sofa, it's almost impossible, but Natures Miracle worked like a charm. Cats will continue to eliminate, even at the slightest scent where they have had an accident.

After you have cleaned your couch, lock the cat up, maybe in a bathroom or another room, with his litter box. Teach him, this is yours and this is the only place for you to go. When I was on my final straw, because he resorted to going on my bathroom rugs, I bought a cat litter called Cat Attract cat litter and I have been accident free since. This litter is fabulous and has a 100% money back guarantee.

Good luck, this is very hard, but you will get through it.

First and foremost - the area now smells like a toilet therefore he goes back thinking this is where he should go - you need to stop access to that room - clean the couch PROPERLY - bicarbonate of soda etc. secondly - cats are clean animals and defecating is something they are normally quite fastidious about - something could be upsetting your cat - the move from his old home maybe, they don't like changes. telling him off when he does this only increases his anxiety and makes things worse, you need to get to the route of the problem and find out if there is something upsetting him. They also don't like to go in litter trays that have poo and wee in there, if you could clean his tray on a regualr basis, say in the morning and at night - just remove whats in there, change the litter once a week at least and make sure his tray is in a private area, nobody wants to be seen going to the toilet!! Another tip I was once told was the type of litter - they hate smelly litter that we buy to make it more bearable for us to smell - for them it smells awful, so get non perfumed litter if you haven't already.

My cat did it for a while next to our chair in the living room, turns out she was frightened of the other cats and upset by our move to a new home, with plenty of patience and love we got through it - she is now very good!!!

You're so nice for adopting this fella. I agree with the above, scoop the litter at least once a day and try to get the urine smell off the couch. I use G.G. Bean Urine Kleen from the pet store. You might try putting a 2nd litter box near the couch temporarily and nudge him over to it when he comes a -sniffing.

He can smell his urine on the couch and that is why he keeps going there. Use a pet odor remover on your couch. Then watch him and if he tries to go there again spray him with a spray bottle of water every time he tries. Cats hate to be sprayed and that will usually work within a few days. Good luck!

Well if he can smell urine on the couch he will continue going there. Make sure his litter is clean and use a product like Folex to remove the urine that is already there. Best of luck!

you are able to google this situation & bypass to a pair stable web content for cat information. there replaced into in all probability some substitute that got here approximately that disillusioned them - distinctive clutter, cats outdoors the residing house that are provoking them etc. it may be that between the cats had a kidney an infection and peed there through fact she could no longer carry it, then the different one began too, through scent, and there is residual scent even after the cleanup it is protecting them going there - all forms of possibilities.
