Muslims want to believe that Ishmael was as equal as the promise child, Isaac. However this caused more disputes than ever. Just think that if Sarah would have obeyed and trusted God, we wouldn't have such an ugly warfare today.

let me speak on behalf of some Muslims here..
we dont believe in such a thing as a covenant with any of the children of Abraham
on the contrary they are both PROPHETS of God, the same God that send the Quran and His last messenger.
Therefore...I think all this dispute has to do with peoples misunderstandings and not really wanting to know what Islam teaches.
They simply get out of it and say: Islam teaches lies!! from things theyve heard from here and there...
Both Isaac and Ishmael were Prophets who had true understanding of Gods True Religion: Worship of One God.
Im appalled by the range of answers people have here, and by the amount of hatred inspired. May we see better days to come.

Everyone doesn't believe that the Bible is the word of God. In the Old Testament of the Holy Bible the Jews are the promised people. Many Jews do not believe in the New Testament when Jesus comes in an allow grace to those that are Gentiles (where Christianity was born). Muslims follow the Koran.

Muslims change history - they believe that the covenant was established with Ishmael. We know that it was Isaac - as the Bible says so. There is no dispute here. True Christians have the Truth - Jesus Christ - there is no other dispute.

From website: "I am the Almighty God...behold, my covenant is with thee, And thou shalt be a father of many nations.
So Abraham is father of many nations, not just one! But that's not all. To those racist teachers who continue to stubbornly resist God by claiming that only a physical nation of Israel and the Jews have a corner on God, I suggest they listen to what Jesus said in Matthew 21 about the prophetic fate of the Jews and the of the physical nation of Israel. After first warning that "He will miserably destroy those wicked men" who reject Him as Lord (Matthew 21:33-43), Jesus flatly stated:
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
Read that again: Jesus declared to the Jews, who arrogantly teach even today that the people of Israel will rule over an earthly kingdom forever, that, in fact, "The kingdom of God shall be taken from you..."
That is way the christan believe what they do...but the ?Jews do not believe the same because they do not believe in the new testiment.. It just depends on the book that you read

Because the Qur'an twists scripture and says Ishmael was the one Abraham was willing to sacrifice, that Ishmael was the one God set the covenant with, etc. Somehow Muhammad knew the "true" scriptures but he didn't have the good fortune of having any such scriptures, so his followers essentially wrote that the covenant was really with Ishmael although they did not posses any scriptures to back it up.

It also states in the bible that everyone who prays to GOD will be condemed for their beliefs. Why ask questions that people can't answer. That's like asking why people hate or kill children. We simply can't not understand hate and people who do haneous crimes. We can only be good people ourselves, do right by GOD and help those in need. We are not here to question, we are here to be good human beings. There are so many out there who are bad and that is where the problems will always remain. Good luck and GOD bless.

Because you can read whatever you want into the Bible. It is written vaguely enough that you can take what you want from it, especially if you have an agenda. And the ability for humans to rationalize away any contradictions seems nearly infinite.

jews and christians should be in agreement on this...they differ on who the messiah is....ie Jesus ( jewish) or someone else to come...they both worship jehovah, the god of the bible.
the only similarity between muslims and the other 2 groups is that they believe in a "one god" concept. . and identify their god as creator, who is NOT jehovah. the god of the bible..
