I just bought a 5 month old Cairn Terrier. I am having severe problems training him. Not only will he NOT go to the bathroom outside, but he will ONLY go when he is put in his crate. He doesn't care if he lays in it all day. I am trying to train him to use a wee wee pad in a puppy litter box, but he absolutely refuses. He is so cute, but I won't be able to keep him much longer unless I can figure out a way to handle his problem. He also has a pretty good case of seperation anxiety after only a few days!

Have you put a blanket in the crate with him? This will cause the puppy to be TOO comfy and will stay in his pee all day. Don't put anything in the crate with him, at some point, he won't want to sit where he pees. Best advice is to ask your vet! He may have an infection or something already and need some meds. Keep taking the dog outside every hour and reward him for going outside. Good luck!

Well, the only suggestion I have to offer only works if you are a man and live in a private house.
I have house broken several dogs very quickly and easily with this method. Take him outside show him what to do. When the puppy sees you peeing outside he will accept that is the way since you are his alpha or pack leader.

Where did you get this cutie? This sounds like a symptom of being in a puppy mill.
