I personally haven't hunted in years, but as a kid I went with my dad a lot. we went for grouse, pheasants, ducks and geese. the dogs we used were german shorthaired pointers, labs, and springer spaniels. out of all the breeds we had german shorthair pointers were the most versatile and did all of it, even the water retrieves

My late husband hunted goose, duck, doves and upland birds with our Chesapeake Bay Retriever - I also hunted upland birds with them.
I personally think Chesapeakes are one of the smartest retriever breeds out there.
I don't hunt anymore - the dog gets at least one outing a season over on Horicon Marsh with a family member.

My dog and I hunt together a lot. He is hard to get out of the camp in the mornings. He is always complaining about carrying his gun and having to wear the orange vest. The problem is that he does not have a hunting license and he is a terrible shot. Some mornings I let him drive the truck when we go hunting. My dog is awesome at flyfishing also, he has a mean backcast.

We have flat-coated retrievers. We train them in the field, and we are currently pursuing field titles. We use live / frozen birds (pigeons, duck, pheasant etc.), real ammo etc. The dogs have a great time and they get tons of exercise doing what they were bred to do. Because my family typically doesn't care for the meat in game birds, we donate the birds to local food banks (or give them to other folks we hunt with). We still get our poultry from our local butcher.

Wow, GitEmGang, your not insulting anyone with this!

To answer your question, I have wanted to do some hunting with dogs, but don't have the time to train them to flush or retrieve. So I just stick with Deer hunting.

You obviously have no general regard for living things on this planet by carrying out you sick and twisted sport, as for your comments on my dog, your talking to jennifer's partner now, he is not horribly diseased, he has a genetic problem which is passed down through generations but can also lay dormant in some dogs so a breeder may not knowingly breed a dog which suffers from seizures, in fact if you were such an enthusiastic dog lover and breeder you would know this, looking at the facts your dogs are more likely to become horribly diseased through carrying out your bloodsports, lastly i would like to inform you that my family has bred staffords for the last thirty years and all of our dogs have led happy and long lives, two becoming champions 'chainmakers ch. reckless lass' who showed at crufts and 'chainmakers ch. samsung of rikamaya' who was shown across america after being bought form my grandfather, keep your advice to yourself please if all you can do is insult those who you 'think' have less knowledge than you, like the saying goes if you havent got anything worth saying dont say it! all my girlfriend was looking for was some friendly adivce,
thank you and goodbye

Nope. Our dogs hunt for themselves. Our mastiffs usually hunt around the yard for apples, pares, and in the garden for tomatoes and cucumbers.
