My friends need somewhere to stay because their house is completely ridden with fleas. If they stay with me, is it possible that they could spread the problem?

I should mention they don't actually have any pets, but they haven't lived there for very long. They don't have anywhere else to go, what should I do!?

Absolutely! Fleas prefer to bite dogs and cats, but if one of them is not available, fleas will bite humans. Your friend needs to treat their pets and home, NOW! The fleas they have will eventually get into their clothes, car, workplace, and everywhere else they go. Tell them they should start by treating the lawn outside their house. Then they should treat their pets with a good quality flea killer from a vet (advantage or frontline). The next thing they should do is remove the pets from their home and bomb it. They need to use enough bombs so the fog gets into EVERY nook and cranny. Once the bombs have done their work, the home needs to be completely vacuumed, and the vacuum bags needs to be sealed and thrown away. Flea eggs can live for approx. 90 days, so they should probably plan on repeating the treatment. It's the only way to completely rid a home of fleas.

Trust me, people can carry fleas. And yes if they themselves are infested they will spread it. I know from experience. I wasn't one of the kids that got sent home from school because of lice. I got sent home because I had fleas!

You should have seen my mother trying to explain to my family doctor what I had. Was to funny. I sneaked a stray cat into my room one night to stay and it was so flea ridden that my whole bed was covered and so was I. My mom found out and got rid of the cat.

It wasn't days later that I started scratching my head and my mother noticed I had fleas.

The doctor told my mother to wash my hair in flea and tick dog shampoo. Lucky for me I didn't have to cut my hair since I had alot of it back then.

yes they can. they need to make sure that all of there belongings are washed thoroughly, ask them to put their clothes into plastic bags straight from the wash or wash them at a laundry mat. and they themselves need to be freshly showered. if they leave their belongings outdoors in the cold for a couple of days it may kill any fleas that might be on them. if you have any pets ask them if they can help you to buy advantage from the vet.(the store bought stuff doesn't work as good) then if you do get any fleas in your house this stuff will kill them.

Yes! It does depend on the type of flea though. They are little hitchhikers on clothes and in personal belongings. They love to drop off and breed in the floor boards!
