There could be several reasons for walking on only three legs. We're assuming he has all four legs to begin with and he's just limping/hopping around. Get him to lay down and see if you can check his paw, sometimes a prickly from your yard can get in between his little toes and cause pain. His mouth is too big to dig inbetween his toes and get it out if it's there, see if he'll let you. The second factor to think about. As they said above, German Sheperds are prone to hip disorders, depending on how old he is, it could be the hip disorder if he's still under 5 years of age. If he's 5 years or older, I would lean more towards canine arthritis in his hip, it could be causiong him some discomfort, especially during the winter months. If you have a warm spot with some bedding for him to lay on in the house, watch him to see if he lays on the side with the hurt hip. Definatley check with your local vet to make sure of the diagnosis. I would not start poking or prodding at his hurt hip, it could irritate him and make him snap at you. Let the vet do it, they have experience with hurt animals.

uh oh how old is your shephard? is it he or she? it might is weak hip. German Shephard has history of hip problem because of shorter legs.
U might need to check the hip. Try to poke hip to see if your dog react of pain. If not check the paw there might be sharp shapel in it or tick in it. Good luck of your dog.

Have you checked his paw? could have a small object in. Have you checked if the leg itself causes pain or is it coming from the hip. G-shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia - might want to get a vet to take a look if it doesn't seem any better. Immediately if the dog is in pain. Best of luck

GSD's are prone to degenerative hip disorders, some show signs of this when they are quite young, while others do not seem to be affected until they are older, most GSD breeders are now trying to breed out this condition by operating a hip scoring method and only breeding dogs that have little or no problem with their hips.
it may also be that he/she has a sore foot, ie, tender pads, small cut,or something small in the foot,
it may also be a sprain from running around and playing.
but the only way to be sure is to take your dog to a vet and get it checked out, please do not wait to see if it rectifies itself, the longer you leave it the more pain your dog may be in.

He's obviously been watching Rolf Harris do his Jeg the Peg impersonation. Don't worry he'll soon be back to normal once he finds a ***** on heat.
