All of those are myths and are false. Potatoes are a very healthy food, with vitamin c and potassium. They are only fattening when you load them with butter or sour cream or gravy. The calories in a potato are no different than calories from any other source.
Breakfast should include all the food groups in an ideal world. Eating just fruit would make you feel hungry again at about 10:00- fruits are mostly a simple sugar called fructose and fiber, and the sugar is used by your body very quickly. For a breakfast that will last you until lunch, make sure you eat complex carbohydrates, like whole grains that take longer for your body to break down into useable form, and protein, same reason.
Drinking while you eat will only make you fat if its a high calorie beverage. Drinking water or some other 0 to low calorie liquids will actually help the digestive process. Extra calories in = fat, fluids, in themselves, won't.
There are no magical foods. The only thing that might begin to qualify for magic status is a food that is high in food value- like vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other things that prevent disease or ease inflamation, and is also not dense in calories. Blueberries are an example.

Potatoes, in and of themselves, do not make you fat. They are, in fact, highly nutritious. Overeating makes you fat.
All the things you listed are false. There is no magic diet that works. Fad diets are ridiculous. Eat a variety of foods, limit your portions and exercise. It is as simple as that. For some reason people just cannot grasp that concept. So, they turn to silly myths. In most cases these false notions will, in the long run, make you heavier!!

Potatoes are starch, and when eaten makes your insulin levels go up (insulin spike), Insulin opens cells up to receive the nutrients and fats (like the butter or sour cream on your potatoes, or the fat of the meat you ate with it). Potatoes are great to eat by themselves before a workout to give you lots of nutrients in your cells for your mitochondria to give your muscle cells alot of energy for you to use (not to eat and then sit on a couch or work at a desk).
I wouldn't recommend drinking while you eat your meal because it will dilute the enzymes needed to digest your food. And as you get older, the amount of enzymes in your body decreases as you are suppose to be on maintenance metabolism and don't need the amount of calories you once needed (unless you keep exercising like you did when you were young, then your body won't reduce your metabolism). Drink before you are to eat, not while eating.
Fruits should be eaten by themselves since they are mostly water, fructose/sugar, and soluble fiber. This kind of food progresses down the GI tract fairly fast. If you throw in a fat or complex carbs, it will slow down its progress and will begin to let the intestinal flora start to ferment it. Thus some people will get gas build-up from eating granola with fruit in the morning.
Weight loss should not be the priority of food eating. Eating healthy should be. Common sense is not to eat processed food (fast food especially, snacks from the supermarkets, candy is nothing but empty calories and satisfying a sweet tooth that is man-made). If you started eating food in its basic form, then you will start to loose the weight. Become aware of what you are eating: is what I am putting in my mouth nutritious for me? or am I just eating it because my taste buds want it?
