violent impulses or the weapons?

From muskets to sixguns to assault weapons, the pages of our history run red with blood. But which came first, the violent impulse or the weapon which answers it’s call?

Since Cain picked up the club and beat his brother to death after he felt the violent impulse, I would have to say the impulse came first. Over time people just got "better" at making weapons to answer the call.
