One of my old friends said to me that he doesn't like to fish or hunt. He doesn't appreciate outdoor activities and didn't want to go with me. And he calls himself a "man". Can you believe that?

Yes, I can believe that.

Personally, I do not think it is a huge leap of faith to imagine someone wouldn’t enjoy sitting in the freezing cold for a deer, putting the cross hairs behind the deer’s shoulder, pulling the trigger and watching the animal fall, walking over and seeing the deer’s shoulder broke and half of its hearts and lungs laying on the ground, rolling it over and cutting it open, pulling its guts out while smelling the wretched stench of rotting browse and grain, looking in its body cavity and thinking…”hmmm, this will be a good steak”.

Fishing isn’t much different. On the surface, it is about as pointless as playing the ball & cup game. You toss something and hope to catch it. Some people don’t want to eat something that eats worms and god only knows what else (you ever catch a halibut and gut it? You find all kinds of parasites and nasty crap living in its guts)

Personally, I am a hunter and a fisherman through and through, but I don’t expect everyone to be like me. To me, a thrill is watching the raw beauty of nature, not killing something. To others, their thrill might be a 1965 Mustang, cruising the strip. Others might find it at the craps table in Casers Palace in Vegas.

To each their own. I don’t expect my children to follow in my footsteps when it comes to hunting and fishing. If they want to, great! If not, that is OK too.

Not that unusual really......

In the last 50 years we have become a more Urban/ Suburban Society. Thus Our idea of the "outdoors" is a park or ball field. Fewer kids into the Boys & Girl scouts( seen a troop lately?). The rise of single parent households is a another strong factor. Traditionally these skills are passed from Father to son. Kinda hard if "dad" is just a support check or in jail.........
Last, is the anti gun/anti hunting/ Peta/ vegan/ food is at the Wal mart combo. All contribute to the decline. They rather would like the play with the Playstation, then stand in a trout stream or a day at the range.

I can't believe how many stupid sh its there are. If you can't see the beauty of hunting and fishing you are as ignorant as anyone. It's not shooting defenseless animals. We don't hunt just to shoot something. Hunting and fishing involves a lot of tactic and hard work for the most part. Deer and other animals have very keen senses, much better than ours, and to get close to an animal w/o it being suspicious of you is the biggest addrenaline rush you could ever have. To kill one of nature's animals isn't all gore and hatefullness... what do you think about native americans or any human living years and years ago. It's about survival and the beauty of nature.

tell u what...........i am an avid outdoorsman.
i fish and hunt anytime i am not working.did u read that.WORKING.
that is what i do to feed my family and pay my bills.that is what makes me a man,a huband,a father.not hunting or fishing.

i love to hunt and fish, but i also know that my family comes first.that makes me a man.i am honest, trustworthy, loyal, and hard working..............that makes me a man,not hunting and fishing.

if hunting and fishing is how u think a man is best described, then u need to sit and reevaluate things.

So because you hunt and fish this makes you a man? Mate, thats not what being a man is all about. It doesn't take a man to shoot a defensless animal, just a coward.
