Think about it... Atlanta was a major entry point for the ancestors of many African Americans. Their history their may be painful to remember but it is a history nonetheless. If your entire culture surrounded life in the south and there was a big city in the area that had lots of jobs and a huge support network of like minded people who are also the descendants of others who were brought over as slaves, you'd probably find solace in a place like Atlanta too.

Atlanta is the new black mecca. It holds a place for blacks to get ahead with better job opportunities created for us and by us. Also it is home to the largest black millionaire community and the best black historic colleges. I am from California but I am moving down to the ATL where it's clearly a better living environment for black people that are doing stuff with there lives and helping out other black people. It's a real strong black community with old fashion southern hospitality that alot of us was brought up on from our parents and grandparents that orginated from the south ( most black people family is from down south). The life and atmosphere in Atlanta is geared more towards African Americans than most other places especially northern and eastern states.

Kind of like Charlotte in NC. Many of the blacks who's folks or grand parents fled the South to come North many years ago, are going home. That Is how they view it anyway.

The job opportunities in this city are much more diverse, pay better and offer more advancement that any other city. But that's particularly for those with college/advanced degrees. I love it here and would never want to live anywhere else (even though I'm from the north.)
