Go with the colors you like. I am having brown, red, and pink for a summer wedding even though I have been told that brown is for fall. I don't care - I like it anyway.

You sound like you're so level headed! Congrats!
I fully believe that the wedding colors should be dictated by the color the bridesmaids are wearing. And I also feel strongly that the color the bridesmaids are wearing should be based on what looks good on them. Although, some colors just seem to go better with different seasons. I doubt you'll see pastel yellow at a winter wedding.
But purple, that's all-year round. And a great color, by the way. It looks good on so many people!

The time of year or season shouldn't matter. It should be done in whatever colors the bride and groom choose. Everything about the wedding should be done to the tastes of the couple getting married, not by what someone else says should be done. We had shades of pink on our cake because that was the color we both liked at the time. To my grandmother's horror, we had bride and groom Trolls (with pink hair) on top of our cake and tiny trolls on te stairs from the upper tier to the lower tier. The girls trolls had pink hair and the boys had blue. She was mortified, but everyone at our wedding had a good time and so did we.
We went untraditional for the groom's cake too.. As a suprise for him, I had the bakery make it to look like his 4x4 truck he had at the time.

My husband is a pastry chef with 15 years experience in making and decorating wedding cakes - so when we married a year ago, he made our cake! I let him do whatever he wanted and didn't know what it looked like until we entered the reception hall the night of the wedding! It was absolutely beautiful - a white scalloped buttercream with a chocolate mousse inside, and grapes and handmade fondant blush roses on all 5 tiers. It was gorgeous and delicious and I love that my hubby made it for our special day.

It's your wedding and do what you want. I had a pink icing and strawberry cake and that was over 30 years ago. Out of the norm then but people enjoyed the non-traditional. This is 2006--be creative, love it, enjoy it.

There's nothing wrong with purple for a winter wedding. I think it would be cool if the purple was a "frosty-looking" purple to make it look wintry, but a deep wine-purple would be good, too- but only as decorations, not the color of the frosting. The frosty-purple could be the frosting color with deep purple flowers on it.

I used purple for my June 3rd wedding--Grape purple. It is my favorite and I didn't care what season it was. My bridesmaids were in grape purple and I just used the same flowers that were in their bouquets as my cake topper.

I think a deep purple would be perfect for a winter wedding...especially if it is accented by white and/or cream colors.

I think purple would be pretty cool on a cake. My cake is based of my bridesmaids. My girls dresses are black with white polka dots, and so my cake is white with black polka dots! I think anything goes!
