Guys, how do you make colored chocolate? I read that you can make food paint by mixing cocoa butter with powdered food color then mixing them in white chocolate. Is there a substitute for cocoa butter coz that's hard to find in our grocery store here in the philippines... will vegetable shortening do or is that going to ruin the taste of the chocolate? Any other way that I can make colored chocolate without having to buy the expensive oil-based food color sold online? Thanks!

you can mix powdered food color with melted shortening or oil then add it into white chocolate as you said. you only need a little bit to dissolve the powder, so it won't affect the flavor. Plus if you use too much it will make the chocolate too soft. Don't use water based food color, or the chocolate will seize up and get thick and grainy.

Sounds like in your case the easiest way would be to make an icing glaze and color it with inexpensive water based food coloring. Then simply paint the chocolate.
