I want to go to Scotland for the New Year but I do not know which area. I was going up Loch Ness way but since have heard that it's not that special.
Can anyone advise of a decent area to go to.
Two conditions apply-I want to go Youth Hostelling with the SYHA and secondly I want to travel by National Express to get there. Oh and a bit of life would be nice.
Any help appreciated.

Edinburgh is the place to be for Hogmanay, the good news is that there is a HUGE hostel SYHA run, almost in the centre of town. I've not been inside, but from the outside it looks more like a 4 star hotel!! A big change from my hostelling days!! I suggest that you book now as it will fill quickly at New Year time.
It's so new that it's not yet on the website, but it's in Leith Walk. There are two others on the website.

Edinburgh usually has a good night, and celebrations are held at Edinburgh Castle, and huge street parties. However you MUST have a ticket for this so I suggest you make arrangements now to get hold of one as they are extremely hard to get. Hope you enjoy it!

Here's a link to Scotland's Hogmanay tradition - the traditional name of their New Years' Celebration. It's celebrated in different ways in different places
