Absolutely. You dont want any nasty surprises. Plus, you want to be able to do something on the date that you know they enjoy, and to know them a little better will give you more of a sense of their preferences.

I always thought the idea of a "date" was to get to know someone.!

Just ask them if they fancy going for a drink, see how it goes and then if its going well just slip into conversation - so is this going to be classed as our first proper date or do you want me to ask properly...or something cheesy like that.

Ask any victim of domestic violence or personal attack and they'll most certainly agree with you. Take things slow. Make a friend first and then see if things should proceed further.

Yeah, from past experiences, its best if you first be friends with them, get to know them, their character etc. Because, chances are, as friends they might let you in more on their secrets than when you actually hook up with them.

I do yes...but not too well unless you want to somehow turn a friendship into a romantic relationship. It's possible but it's a long term project.

Yes, because then you know if you can be friends...Personally, I think it is better to get to know someone beforehand so that you can find similar interests etc...

Good luck!!

definitely, you don't need to know there life story though, just see if you have anything in common, or else a date would be quite awkward.

Yeah of course, no harm in that. And besides it makes it better for you to make your mind up if they are relationship material.
